Freshly Review: Is it Worth it?

Recently I gained back 8 pounds of the initial 20 I had lost.

I know, I know, it doesn’t seem like a lot but for my body type, it is. At 5’4, anytime I go over 150lbs. I seem to look like an Oompa Loompa straight out of the chocolate factory…and not a cute one at that. So to help me stay on track and in shape, I decided to give Freshly a try.

If you’ve been following my weight loss journey on Instagram stories, you know I’m pretty active despite having a sedentary job. To keep active, I go to a weekly boxing class, try to get at least 30 minutes of cardio each day followed by some weight training and I hike at least once a week.

Despite it all, I still managed to gain those pesky 5 pounds back and it wasn’t muscle weight like I would’ve hoped (thank you McDonald’s, Hot Cheetos and beer -_- )

In case you’re curious, here’s how I track my muscle weight and other handy Amazon Fitness Finds

Before I dive into what Freshly is, why I decided to go, etc. I wanted to mention nutrition. Mine hasn’t been the greatest after coming back from a vacation so that has taken a toll on my body tremendously.

With that being said, I decided to join a meal delivery service because

1. I had limited access to a kitchen (nightmare roommate sitch that may be discussed later.)

2. I wanted to cut back on delivery costs from Yelp, UberEats (use code eats-CYN63UE for $$ off), etc that added up quickly. I mean, I was easily spending around $20-30 on just lunch and it wasn’t the best food either!

So after doing some research, I stumbled upon Freshly and was immediately sold!

What is Freshly

Freshly is a meal delivery service that unlike other meal subscription boxes, delivers fully cooked, portioned meals to your door.

One of the biggest reasons why I decided to give Freshly a try was the fact that I did not have to cook. Yeah, you read that right….no cooking, cutting, peeling. You simply pop the meal in the microwave and *BAM*….you’re ready to eat a well prepared, gourmet meal (goodbye dinner time ramen!)

As someone who’s always on the go, this was an instant sell. There’s nothing more convenient than no mess in the kitchen to clean up, no time being spent on grocery shopping or cooking. Call me lazy but I spend most my days at work and running this blog and cooking for one person is not the best to be honest.

Ingredients

Another reason why I immediately decided to sign up with the Freshly was the fact that all the food is gluten-free, nut-free, high protein and low carb so there is little to no thought it comes to counting your macros and selecting meals.

Guilt-free eating at its finest!

How does Freshly work?

1. Sign up

To join Freshly you simply visit the company’s site.

Immediately you will be taken to a landing page with a “sign up” button in the right-hand corner.

Fill out your information and done.

2. Choose your meal plan

Next, you will select what meal plan you’d like.

Freshly meal plan schedule and payments

Because I’m not too concerned with breakfast or dinner (I usually eat oatmeal a protein shake and fruit for breakfast and for dinner I have a slow cooker) I chose the 6 meal plan to help me stay on track while I work.

3. Choose your delivery date

Once you have selected your meals, you then select what day of the week you’d like the delivery.

You can always change the day or choose to skip a week if you’re going on vacation or what have you.

To help you out, Freshly is really good at sending an email a few days before the order goes out to remind you to update your meal choice, delivery date or if you decide to skip, you can do so at that time.

I really like that it’s so hassle-free when I need to skip a week and the flexibility with the delivery dates is pretty great.

4. Arrival

To preserve freshness Freshly delivers the meals in a box that is insulated with recycled denim (as opposed to Styrofoam) that helps keep the meals cold until you put them in the fridge.

The meals themselves are individually wrapped and in a black meal prep style tray and sealed with plastic that is easy to remove when its time to eat.

You have the choice to either freeze the meals or put them straight in the fridge for future consumption.

Overall Freshly Review:

Overall I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the food and the service Freshly provides as a whole. I know this may not be ideal for everyone but this meal service has really helped me get back on track when it comes to my eating. I literally lived off chicken nuggets and Del Taco for a few weeks and I felt awful when it came to working out. Not to mention the greasiness took a toll on my skin so I broke out more frequently.

To help you decide if Freshly is right for you, here are some Pro’s and Con’s of the delivery service

Pro’s

  • Food is fresh and generally healthy
  • Portion control
  • No cooking necessary
  • Ready-to-eat meals
  • Allergy-friendly
  • Perfect for on-the-go people
  • Free delivery
  • Hassle-free cancellation and meal skipping

Con’s

  • Some meals have high sodium
  • Because the food is so fresh, best-by dates are limited
  • Can get pricey

So is the lazy tax worth the price?

At $59.99 the service is definitely worth it for me. Each meal comes out to $9.99 as opposed to almost $20 with delivery fee and tip and has quality ingredients that work for me and my needs.

As someone who’s always on the go, I found that using Freshly also gave me a piece of mind  knowing I didn’t have to worry about what to eat for lunch (or dinner if I chose to make lunch the day before.)

It’s really helped me stick to my calorie count and a meal plan too as I can see how many calories each meal has before I place my order.

All in all, I’m really happy I went with Freshly as my meal delivery service!

Thank you for all thw details about your health journey. I can truly relate to this. I think that your idea was innovative. It is highly cinvenient to have healthy foods directly delivered to your door. It saves loads of time and money and beats ordering take out on the days that one is too tired to cook. It is well worth checking this out. Food also looks delicious from your pictures!
